As the standard BR general-purpose diesel shunter, the 08 Class became a familiar sight at major stations and freight yards.

Although a large proportion of the class has long been withdrawn, sold, or scrapped, 08064 shown here in its original livery as 13079 escaped destruction and resides in the NRM, preserved and operational to this day.
