Digital Control Train Sets

The future of model railway control is here with the latest and best
Hornby Digital Command Control System. The new Hornby system differs from the
conventional type of 12v controllers in as much that it is the individual locomotives
that are controlled internally, rather than the controlling of a locomotives
speed and direction by varying the current to the track.

Hornby Select	Hornby Elite

The Hornby Select and Hornby Elite digital units, when connected
to the track, pass not only a constant 15v DC along the rails but also information signals
to all locomotives and accessories that are on or are connected to the track.
Each locomotive that is DCC controlled must have fitted internally a small micro processor
based receiver called a Decoder. This Decoder is capable of "listening" for information
or messages which refer to the locomotive that the decoder is fitted to.
In this way several locomotives can be placed on the same track and moved individually,
without the need for complicated wiring or the use of isolated sections of track.
Using the keypad, that is on both the Select and Elite units, locomotives can be called up
individually and operated just like the real thing, points and accessories connected
via the accessory decoder can also be operated from the keypad.

The Select allows for 60 locos to be registered to the unit and 40 accessories,
the Elite 255 locos and 255 accessories. Locos can be simply coded on the track and
linked for double heading, speed steps to suit different locos and inertia levels set,
lights on locos stay on even when loco is stationary and can be switched on or off
even on the move, coaches with lights stay on even when stopped in the station.

Below are shown complete Digital Train Sets which include the Select digital controller
and the locos are already fitted with a decoder. Most new locos now come
"DCC ready" this means they are ready to simply plug in the decoder,
"DCC fitted" locos have the decoder already installed but can still work on a conventional system.
Earlier locos that are not DCC ready will require some conversion,
however instructions are provided with both digital controllers.
Digital control is more suitable for our modern locos fitted with smaller,
more efficient motors and electrical pick up on most wheels, older locos may not work as well.
